〜Experience Japanese food culture in a fun and tasty way while shopping!〜

Whether you are a child or a foreign tourist, anyone can enjoy authentic soba noodle making experience at Shinshu Soba Restaurant Yamahei in Karuizawa Prince Outlets (5-minute walk from Karuizawa Shinkansen Station). An Experienced instructor will carefully guide you through the process of kneading, stretching, and cutting soba noodles. The finished soba noodles will be served with tempura and the famous walnut sauce on the spot.



– Flow of the class –

1. Change into the soba making outfit

When you arrive, go up to the second floor of the restaurant and register. First, you will be asked to change into your soba making outfit(samue, maegake, tenugui).


2. Soba making

You will experience making soba for about one hour. Experienced instructors will teach you how to make delicious soba, so even first-timers and children can make something delicious.

① Mixing buckwheat flour and water
② Kneading
③ Stretching
④ Cutting
⑤ Cooking (the instructor will boil the soba)


3. Eating

You will enjoy soba noodles that you have made yourself in a way that is unique to Shinshu. Seasonal tempura is also available. Soba tastes best when it is freshly ground, freshly made, and freshly cooked. Please enjoy the aroma and taste of soba noodles with a unique palatable experience. If you cannot finish your meal, you can take some home as a souvenir and enjoy it at home.


4. Souvenirs

It’s just 1hr away from Tokyo by train and this experience spot is located on the premises of an outlet mall in front of the station and is very easy to get to.

Under the guidance of a friendly local soba master, we were able to learn the culture and techniques of soba making in a one-stop workshop.

It was great to eat soba noodles I made with delicious Tempura and wallnuts dip sauce.
